Disney releases a brand new look at the ongoing construction of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction. Announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2015 with work officially starting April of 2016, it’s set to open its doors for visitors next year at both Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California (summer) and in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida (fall).
For a more immersive experience, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios will also have its own hotel for visitors who would like their trip to be more than just a single day affair. No word if a similar feature will eventually come to the California iteration of the attraction, but the in-construction accommodations will allow patrons to further explore the attraction and feel like they’re living in the galaxy far, far away. That’s on top of other fun activities that guests can partake in like being able to pilot the fastest ship in the galaxy in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Disney Parks unveiled a video of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge set to open next year at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Aside from a brand new look at the upcoming attraction, the two-minute clip also features insights from a couple of people who have been working hard on the project, including Carrie Beck, vice president of Lucasfilm Story Group. She shared how she felt wandering on location – something she can’t wait for the public to experience.
“It will be jaw-dropping and incredibly emotional to walk into the land for the first time, to actually be standing there amongst the buildings, amongst the ships and have this feeling that it is all real, that it has been brought to life, and it is right there in front of you. It’s overwhelming.”
Earlier this month, Disney announced that they would release brand new details about the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this Christmas, which effectively hyped up fans who have been waiting for a sneak peek of the attraction for quite a while now. It’s been a couple of months since the House of Mouse released the aerial video showing the public the grounds where the upcoming attraction will be located. And based on the latest clip, ongoing construction has been going smoothly with the park already baring resemblance from the previously released concept arts for the place.
The opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge coincides in the same year that the ongoing sequel trilogy will be capped off via the still-untitled Star Wars: Episode IX. Directed and co-written with Chris Terrio by Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, the threequel will hit theaters December of next year and will supposedly mark the end of the Skywalker saga. Since the new amusement park attraction will have been operating for a couple of months already by the time the film hits theaters, it’s interesting if they will boost up people’s excitement over the movie. In any case, 2019 is shaping up to be a huge year for fans of the famed franchise with a couple of things to look forward to.
