Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio Wants to Work With Taika Waititi

Vincent D’Onofrio – Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk on Netflix’s Daredevil – expresses a desire to work with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. First making his mark on Hollywood as a young military recruit eventually driven to suicide in the classic Stanley Kubrick film Full Metal Jacket, D’Onofrio has had yet quite the storied acting career, counting projects like JFK, Ed Wood, Men in Black, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent among his credits. More recently, D’Onofrio wowed Marvel fans as murderous crime lord Wilson Fisk on the sadly cancelled Daredevil.

Last month, D’Onofrio took to social media to announce that he’d be interested in playing Lex Luthor for DC, although he ended up walking back those comments a bit. In today’s instance of D’Onofrio using Twitter to make headlines, the actor tweeted directly at Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, making it known that he wants to collaborate with the filmmaker/occasional actor. Check out D’Onofrio’s post below, to which Waititi eventually responded quite enthusiastically.

While it seems clear that Waititi would be more than happy to accommodate D’Onofrio’s request that they work together, both tend to be so busy one wonders when it might be able to actually happen. D’Onofrio works constantly, both on film and in TV shows, and Waititi is still working on the movie Jojo Rabbit, all while preparing to make his directing debut in the Star Wars universe via The Mandalorian streaming series. Coordinating their schedules long enough to collaborate could prove difficult.

Considering their shared past with Marvel, one assumes D’Onofrio might be interested in playing Kingpin in a future MCU movie directed by Waititi. That said, current rights entanglements aside, the most obvious MCU projects for Waititi to possibly tackle are a sequel to Thor: Ragnarok and the still director-less Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Neither film would seem like a logical outlet for a Kingpin appearance, as Fisk has never been shown outside of Daredevil’s New York City, much less outside the confines of Earth. At the end of the day though, if D’Onofrio and Waititi really want to make a team-up happen, it probably will at some point.
