Johnny Appleseed (1948)

This cartoon was one of my childhood favorites and is actually only 20 minutes long. You can watch it here on YouTube.  Some could complain this story isn’t entirely true, but what this cartoon lacks in historical accuracy it makes up in an impressive list of what you can make with apples.

Not many people know this, but I’ve never been a particularly large or rugged individual (I know — you’re shocked), so maybe that’s why I’ve always identified with ol’ Johnny.  Sometimes we tend to compare our weaknesses with other’s strengths (literally in this case), but in so doing we fail to appreciate the talents God has given us.

So what’s the lesson here?  Every person can do something. Take time to develop your talents and figure out what you’re good at, then use that gift to bless the lives of other people.

“To every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God.” – D&C 46:11
